problem with LG GSA-4040B

Whenever i try to backup a dvd i am geting an error message and the dvd-r disc is not playing. when i open the disc in the LG drive i can see the files and i can watch the movie till near the end.
When i backup data i do not have any problem.
Although the manufacturer says that the dvd recorder is recording the dvd-r at 4x speed, when i burn i can not increase or decrease the speed from 2x.

i have a pentium 3 800Mhz with 256 Mb memory. Hard Disk 40Gb. the LG recorder is a primary drive.
i am using the nero 6 to burn the dvd-r's.

Elaborate on what method you use to back up the DVD (?)

Are you adding all VOB/BUP/IFO files to a VIDEO_TS folder in DVD-Video mode within Nero 6 ?

As Herb said, some more info would be helpful.

One thing I would try is to decrease the output size. In DVD2One I use 4444 MB; instead of the default 4464 MB.

Also, some media will only burn at certain speeds. It will also be restricted by the settings of your drive; if the motherboard can't handle 4X it will drop the speed down.

Well make sure you have the latest firmware, A302. As was said, just because a disc is rated as 4X does not mean your burner will burn at that speed (common to many burners). You also have to find media that is a good match for the LG. For 4X, RitekG04's, Taiyo Yuden and BeALL's work fine. The G04's are always a good choice.
