Here is what I have:

1. Fat Ps2

2. Gameshark V3/4

3. Slide Tool

4. Guitar hero 3 Backup Disc

Here is what I have tried:

1. I made a backup of guitar hero 3 ps2 verison.

2. Inserted gameshark and let it boot with no cheats.

3. The disc tray ejected and I reinserted with no disc.

4. Used Slide Tool to manually open the disc tray.

5. Inserted Guitar hero 3 backup

6. Nothing boots and sometimes the screen would freeze.

What Am I doing wrong here?

This method was based off of a guide that had said I could boot backups without a modchip and swap magic. ONLY USING THE GAMESHARK FOR THE PS2.

It has been tried so many times. But most people have found it does not work using gameshark.
You could install an exploit though if you have a PS1 original game, then once the exploit is installed, use uLaunch.elf and a usb flash drive to install fmcb 1.8

From there you can use the ESR.ELF to play backups that are patched with a disc patcher.
Once that is installed you can then use the Codebreaker.elf thats patched for hdloader to cheat on backups if you wanted.

That PS1 exploit won't work on the slim Ps2

For slim PS2 you would need "armax with media player", or swap magic disks.
Or there is a trustworthy fellow named "dangwoot" that will install fmcb 1.8 for the cost of sending your mc to him and back to you.

One other way is if you have an Original 007 Agent under Fire disk

http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/703564

He says 007 Nightfire but the guys in the thread below say 007 Agent under Fire works among a few other disks.
