OK, so I am trying to add a menu to a DVD. I have the movie itself in DVD files(VOB and such). The files together equal 4.7GB, but when I add the files to Nero Vision, it shows that the files are taking up 6+GB. I even tried converting the original video to MPEG2. The video was split into 4 parts, approximately 1GB each. So the total is still just over 4GB. But again, when I add it in Nero Vision, it says total is 6+GB putting it over the limit. Using Nero 6 Ultra - Nero Vision 2.

Please advise, and thanx for any and all help.

Indeed, i'd like a technical explanation for that as well. See... I would love to have rebuilder size everything just right, slap it into a dvd menu authoring program, E.g Nero vision, etc. and have it just right. I guess the real question is, Why does nero believe something that is ALREADY in dvd compliancy, need to be converted to such an output size. Why does it even need to encode/transcode at all??? Why cant simply links to titles be created and thats it.

OK. I didn't figure out the why, but I found a solution. Not sure of the result yet, cause I left it working while I write this.

I'll bet that the video your working on has a running time of roughly 2 hours. I'm right... right?

Well, it's a throwback to the VHS days. There's an option that allows for "extended play", "standard play", "long play" and such. I switched it from "standard" to "long" and it cut the used space down to just under 4.7GB. There is a button that says "MORE>>", then I believe "Video Options", then the second tab will give you a drop down option for "extended, standard", and so on.

Sorry I can't tell you the exact path to follow, it occurred to me to update this AFTER I had found the solution. Let me know if it helps, I hope so.

I am aware of those capabilities. The question is, WHY does it need to retranscode when selecting dvd-5? It should be as easy as inputting links to the multiple titles, chapters. Shouldnt it?

I agree. But unfortunately, I don't do this often. So, I just needed this quick solution. I was even gonna look for ways to do the whole su-menu thing, Chapter Selection and what not. But this wasn't really for me, so I didn't get obsessed with it, LoL. Selfish, I know.

For future reference, I am still curious. Hope you get the answer you're looking for. Good luck.
