what are the differences of the 720p and then 1080i/p? and if i use a normal dvd disc but the player can play until 1080i would it display great graphics or does it have to be blue ray disc? then my lcd is 720p but when i tried 1080i on it, it worked is that normal? sorry for the many questions. guys. thanks in advance for those who would help me.

Any resolution source you play right up to 1080P will work on your LCD TV but it will downscale or convert to 720P. So if you plug in a 1080P blue ray player and play a 1080p disc via HDMI into your LCD it will display it at 720P. Yes it is normal for this to happen.

If you have a DVD player that 'upscales' or converts to 1080i your player basically takes the normal dvd picture (576i or P if the player is a progressive scan player) and a chip inside the player simply multiplies the number of lines and pixels up to 1080i. Your screen will then downscale this image to 720P as that is the maximum resolution it can handle. The picture will be good, although some upscaling dvd players are better than others and it all depends on the chip(s) inside the player as well as the quality of the TV and how well it converts down.
