i have done this in the past but i forget the name of the program i used
so what i need is a program to restore the whole harddrive to PRE-formatted state (accidental format of wrong drive)
prefer free a one

You can try the free testdisk and see if that can recover your hard drive. That might be the program you used before.

hi i don't think you are going to be able to restore h/drive to preformat state but there is a program called ONTRACK EASY RECOVERY PRO which can be downloaded from a torrent site
