While I'm sure this method works great, and I think it's great you're offering advice I'm curious as to why you want to convert the file first? I understand people like to use their burning program of choice, but if Alcohol can't burn iso's I think it's easier to grab IMGBurn. It's 100% free, no adware and it burns all sorts of image files with no need to convert your .iso.

I have a Nero 9 and ASUS DVD-RW. I've tried burning Mortal Kombat Shaolin Monks to a Sony DVD-R. It works great!
But something went wrong when I used Philips and Imation DVD-r's. My 2 PS2's can't read any of them.
Is it because of the modchips installed in my PS2. Too bad I don't know what modchips are installed on each unit.

pipitman, can you help me please? I have a similar problem as FengWei7. I downloaded Star Wars: The Force Unsleashed, burnt it but all I got was black screen. Now I know I burnt it right because I did the same with some other games and they work ok. How can I find out what my mod chip is (I have a scph 77004 PS2) so I could perhaps update firmware?

Thanks for the answers, pipitman. I know I have some mars modchip in it (I bought it that way), but I'm not keen for opening the ps for finding more about it. Anyway, I'm gonna try your method and hope it works. Thanks again. ;)

Hey pipitman it almost work on burning it to a sony DVD and the disc read but it only shown me a black screen on my tv so its almost there but i don't have a mod chip on mine sorry but i went to SwapMagic3 web site to check out some info cause i downloaded swapmagic v3.6

and there whole page shown me my ps2 model its a usa model so i don't think i have a mod chip.

that was why i ask u if u knew about my ps2 model so its cool, and my bad i didn't get back to u i didn't have any internet by my house so i just recive the message just now

OH one more thing about the dvd disc info u were talking about, I found on the site that i might have to lower the speed below 4x speed
well here what they said:
"(try to burn backup games in a lower speed (not more than 4X) which help the readability of disc in PS2)"

SO is this true how low do i have to put the speed down, Do u think u might know or have u ever have a swapmagic v3.6 disc but as a copy file thats a download if u get with what i'm talking about all i'm asking about is ( if i downloaded swapmagic can i still do the same things as u explain about for game in converting it to DVD so it can read and the only thing I'm missing is the tool set so i can do this so let me know)

P.S. please leave all messages for me like i said b4 i don't have internet by my house so when i come to my girls house I'll check it out ok thanks

Not to derail your thread again, but for those asking about swapmagic and the hdloader mc exploit try IMGburn. All you have to do is install it, click on the write file to disc option. Select your .iso (I think it can do .mdf's and other file types but I haven't tried it) and which DVD drive you want to use (if you have more than one, I have four so it is an important step) then hit the write button. I have never had a PS2 game fail using this method. Works perfectly with swapmagic, and the HDloader exploit (every game but the newer DVD DL's that can't be put on their even with the retail disc).

I agree totally, use Imgburn to burn your PS2 ISO

Alcohol is fine for CD and PS1 backups.

No that won't work for you. YOu have an unmodded system, so there is no way it will load a backup of Swap Magic.

You need the retail Swap Magic disks, then you can play burned ISO images or backups.

If you want to play backups on an unmodded PS2, then you should get someone with a modded PS2 to install fmcb 1.8 to a mc for you.
That way you can play backups using an application(elf file) called ESR

You can try these guys. They are cheap and reliable.

Now once you buy it, or if you do a lot of imports actually work better by using imgburn to back up the disc to an ISO image.
Then burn it onto DVD-R
That has been the experience of most.

Hi pipitman!
I have 2 units (70006 ps2, the slim type). Unit 1 can read DVD-R's, but it can't read DVD-RW's. Unit 2 can read DVD-RW's, but can sometimes read DVD-R's.
I'm itching to open and take a look on what modchip each unit has.
But I really can't. Hu hu!

@ FengWei7

Most PS2 can't read DVD-RW, and even if they can those discs are very hard on the laser.
Should use only to test something.

Most Slim PS2 should be able to read DVD-R, you could try a different brand maybe.

@ Hi smoky!
Thanx 4 d tip. I've been trying out this method 4 a while. Do u know how 2 burn PS2 games by using Nero 9 Rescue Agent? I first save the recovered files on a folder, then from these files I will create an image to burn thru ImgBurn.
I burned the created image files on a Sony DVD-R. I tried burning Twisted Metal: Head On. Everything loaded up fine, but then the trouble started when it hung at the loading screen when I was trying to start a new game.
Is it maybe that I missed copying a file or two? Or is there something wrong with the recovered files? The PS2 game DVD where I copied the files had the same problem.
The game loaded fine when it was new, and then eventually, it hung up at the loading screen when trying to start a new game. It occurred both to the head-On and the TM Lost stages of the PS2 game.

Hi FengWei7
I would just use Nero 9 to copy the Disc and make an Image file, instead of using the Recovery agent.
That program is used more for when you can't recover files normally from discs.
But if it is working for you , then that is ok too.

You could try using Nero Burning Rom to burn it also.

Just open Nero Burning Rom, Create New DVD ISO/UDF, select all the files you have in the folder to the compilation and then burn it.

For Twisted Metal: Head On I can't remember trying it with Swap Magic, and I don't have my SM DVD disk anymore

But to get it too work with my memor32, I had to follow this method.
http://www.console-exploits.com/forums/showthread.php?t=13787

It then worked perfectly. It is not too hard a tutorial to follow.

You can just use Imgburn to copy your discs to an ISO image, then burn the ISO image if you want.

Salamat pipitman. nagalit satin c mausok na ulan. U know wat I mean. I'm just having a hard time looking for a good media for burning. Ayoko na bumili sa CD-R King. They're not genuine kc. It's like sila lang ung nag manufacture ng CD's/DVD's nila. It's just like that.
Nagpapalaro kc ako. He he.
