I have a quick question. I'm going to help a friend with his new TV and I was wondering if I can use those ordinary Yellow, Red, and White cables normally used for dubbing between decks, if I can use them for the Component Output of a DVD Recorder/Player to the Component Input on the TV??

Will these cables work for Component connections or do I need to buy special Component connection cables??

Hi masoncool, to connect the component, you'll need component cables.

The red/white/yellow cable is called composite (the poorest of quality), the red & white are audio and the yellow is video. The red/blue/green (RBG) cables of a component cable (the better, HDMI being the best) is all video.

If you are getting the component cable, you will still need to connect the audio (red/white). You can use the composite cable for audio (red/white), just don't use the yellow, just leave it dangling.
