I just recently bought the 9800gtx+ and let me add it is one of the best purchases I have ever made.

When I bought it I definitely noticed it was making more noise than my previous card but it was within reason.

I started out with nvidia beta driver 180.43 to be exact and it was working fine. After getting gta 4 and hearing that 180.84 drivers were better suited to the game I immediately switched to that driver.

The first thing I noticed was that the fan on the card was higher than ever before even when not playing a game. It used to adjust according to temp and stayed around 60c at all times and now it's always between 45 and 55c cause the fan is so damn high. I don't mind cool temps but this is ridiculous.

Why is my fan no longer automatically adjusting? I have changed to non-beta drivers 180.48 and am still having this issue. I am unable to lower the fanspeed with ntune but wouldn't want to anyway as it should be working fine on it's own.

Please help me

Your time is very much appreciated.

I have the m2n-e sli mobo and very good case cooling in case you were wondering.

I have that same card and use those drivers. I have also noticed the extra noise while idle and that river tuner and gpu-z no longer show the fan speed or allow adjustment.
The fan is still "stepping up" during gaming though, just not as much as it used to. It used to run cooler when gaming than it did at idle with the old 178.xx drivers.

At least this shows I'm not crazy.

Thanks for the response.

All I need to know now is why. I could speculate and say it must be a safety measure or maybe a feature that was somwehow overlooked.

kiwi1, what would you suggest at this point?

I guess I should play the waiting game.

To be honest I haven't been too concerned about it. My temps are 56C idle, 63C during gaming and it's mid summer here.
Have a look at this program EVGA precision 1.4.0
Apparently you can set your own speed-temp curve with this after losing fan control with the new drivers.
I have no idea if it works with non EVGA cards, I'll try it later today.

You could also try this http://www.nvidia.com/object/nvidia_system_tools_6.02.html

That is a great suggestion. I checked out some forums and it does work with non-evga cards. I'll definitely try that out when I have time.

Thanks again, kiwi1.
