Hi i just bought a 320 gb western digital sata hdd today

To install on this pc as a a secondary hard drive

The hard drive will only show up in Bios but when it shows up it doesn't even have a model number or anything the hardrive im using now shows up like this

Ch1 M: Hitachi model number here

this drive shows up as

Ch2 M:


and nothing else i tried connecting it to my via VT6421a sata card but its the same thing it just shows up as

SCSi0


and nothing else i got it to show up in the via utility before vista boots up and it says: type: sata hdd space:0.00gbs

i really have no idea what to do i had raid disabled i turned it on but it didn't help i thought i could format it through a windows xp installation but still no luck any help would be appreciated

I would suggest you install the hard drive with a diagnostic disk from the supplier of of your hard drive. You will be able to download free of charge from there web site.

Go into control panel, system and maintenance, administrative tools, computer management, storage, disk management and then you'll see something like this.




Then make sure the disk is seen here, and then enable it by right clicking and choosing an option such as add as basic disk.
