It's been a long time since I've made backups of my PS1 games for use on my modded console and I'm pretty sure I used my CD burner to backup Suikoden II in the past. However, I can't remember which software I was using or which write method.

My CD burner supports burning at x1-x4 but can't burn with RAW DAO (only DAO, RAW SAO, RAW SAO+SUB and TAO) According to my research I shouldn't have been able to make successful backups without RAW DAO.

My questions are therefore:

1. Would it be technically possible to burn a backup PS1 game using my CD burner?
2. If so which write method should I be using?
3. Which software should I be using?
4. Will any of the above change if I am burning protected PS1 games?
5. Is there anything else I should watch out for burning my PS1 games with this burner?

Here is a system info report from Alcohol 120% on my CD burner:

Hi, I can't see your images. They are pretty small.

But here is a guide with each program used and pictures.

What type of modchip are you using? Most will get by the protection.

sorry about that here are direct links to both images:

I have since tried backup using RAW SAO+SUB for both Alcohol and CloneCD and got hardware related errors "focus servo" error in Alcohol and something similar with CloneCD. I think there may be something physically wrong with the drive's burning abilities even though it reads CDs fine. The CDR media was different for both programs used so I can rule out that. Thanks for the guides.

Forgot to mention that I have no clue about the modchip since the console was a gift from a friend many years ago.

Sorry I had given you the wrong link before.

I know some on here have burned their PS1 games with DAO/SAO at low speed a few years ago.

It sounds like your burner is the problem though. I should have read better, because you say it only can burn at 1-4x speed.

You need to burn CD at 12x speed.

Also perhaps your version of Alcohol is outdated too.

But you could try the above using DAO/SAO at 4x speed and see what happens.
