hi i have a compaq presario sr1924nx desktop computer which i recently installed xp on, my internet connection will not work nor do i have a network adapter listed. how do i go about getting the driver updates with no internet connection and where do i find the one for network adapters ? this site http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softw...product=3198973 has the updates but i do not know what will update my network adapter. can someone help me or point me in the right direction ?

ive installed that but a message says to install through the device manager ? in the device manager theres still no network showinf except for "1394 net adapter" which is firewire or something ? any ideas ?
the network adapter is built right on the motherboard

yes "other devices" and theres about 6 other things within this
the six things are

audio device
other pci bridge device
pci simple comm. controller
sm bus controller
unkown device
video controller

ive installed all of the drivers and the question marks are still there aloong with no network adapter

uninstall the question mark devices & re-start windows so it can find new hardware & load it's drivers.

well now the computer wont start up

try another keyboard, either ps2 or usb versions.

You may have bad RAM. In an otherwise working system, I have seen

missing file or corrupt
"root>\system32\ntoskrnl.exe"

with bad RAM in the system.

Troubleshooting multiple problems is challenging, but doable if you focus on one problem at a time.

First you need to get the laptop back up and stable before working on your NIC problem.

If possible, start moving/swapping/removing RAM until the laptop boots consistently.
