Hi guys

Firstly apologies for what is probably a common question, I have done a few searches and couldn't find a solution to my particular query.

Basically I'm looking for the most cost effective way to watch downloaded MKV files which have been ripped from a B/R Disc.

The files vary between 4.3GB to 6.5GB and herein lies the problem.

My equipment is as follows:
Desktop PC with internal DVD Burner and 22" Monitor with HDMi
3 x external / portable Hard Drives

A 32" HDTV with stand alone DVD player (Upscaler)

I am able to watch the MKV files on my PC via VLC player however I want to watch them on my 32" HDTV which is downstairs in our living room (sadly my folks won't let me haul my PC down there and plug it in lol)

So what is the best solution? I have burned a couple of 20min TV episodes onto DVD using ConvertXtoDVD and because they are only approx 1GB in size there is no problem as they fit onto a blank DVD (although taking up nearly all the space)

However as the films are larger am I correct in thinking they wont fit onto a Blank DVD using ConvertXtoDVD? If so, what are my options on watching these downstairs without hauling my PC down there?

Is something like a TViX the only solution?

Thanks!

Hi,

If you want to watch it in 720p or 1080p then VSO ConvertXtoDVD is not the solution.

Since ConvertXtoDVD will downscale it to DVD Standards (NTSC or PAL).

Read up on TsMuxer and AVCHD but there's issues, learning stuff as I go myself.

Hi thanks for the reply, I think I have found the answer in the form of the WD HD TV Player - Up to 1080p, MKV and NTFS support! ordered one today!

You could also check out the Popcorn Hour media streamer. I have one and it works pretty well with mkv's as well as a variety of other media.

Google it :-)

cheers.
