Hi, can any one advise me...
I have many discs with mp3 files. When you open the folder on each album most are - Track 1 Track 2 etc. Is there any programme which I can use as so it recongises the tracks, and transfers them to ITunes with all the music info.. Album, Artist, ect. Up to now- I have had to type all the info - Surley there is a esaier way?
Thanks
Alan
You want to import them after you get the tag info right. I would be extreamly wary of using any app to import directly into itunes. itunes might do something nasty. I have headrd of persons using apps designed to do that. One day probably after an itunes upgrade their tunes are gone. Apple is always adding new attack routines to keep you faithful. You can safely add the new folder/folders to itunes. Why anyone would risk getting blown away is beyond me.
You mentioned the tunes were in album folders. Try mp3tag first. There is a utility that uses an external source to populate the tag info for tunes organized like yours. It can use either FreeDB or Amazon. If you can't find the source you can batch tag artist and album.
Powerful alternitives to itunes are WinAmp and Media Monkey. Both have a utility that will tag the tune while it is played. This is time consuming unless you are willing to let the thing tag your music unsupervised. I have never used the function but I suspect it will not always guess correctly.
I will warn you not to use these to sync with your ipod while itunes is installed. itunes is as jelous as a woman. If you are unfaithful it will do its best to kill your ipod. Only a full restore will bring it back to life. itunes can be uninstalled without removing any data. If you do this you can install back to the same place without missing a step.
well soundcrank is a plugin for itunes it will ad album art and lyrics to your music, but you will have to add song title and album title your self, i know is not what your looking for, but give it a try. im sure there has to be a program somewhere that does what you want, i just haven't heard of it. Good Luck
After my last post i did some research and this is what my search turn up 1st MP3 Tag Editor, bellow is the link, now i have not tryed this nor did i knew it exist but this is what you are looking for. Good Luck.
1St MP3 Tag Editor
By the way itunes is ultra light weight compaired with the heavy hitters. Almost all audio managers can add artwork and lyrics either as a primary feature or an add on (plug-in or script).
irongiant, there is a huge difference between having a process that tags and a process that tags correctly and as you would like it. A tune from a popular artist might be on a dozen albums. Lables continue to re-hash the 70s music in as many ways possible. Some are exactly the same and some are not. There is also a major problem if your tunes are not in the databases used. This is pretty common for vinyl capture that never was made into a CD. This happens to me more than I would like. I have even seen a complaint about the play the music and the function identifies it even though I am sure the tune was identified correctly. The auto tagger correctly identified the artist and title but the album listed was a rescent compilation. The user wanted it to be tagged with the original 70s album.
I have used mp3tag extensivly. I have several utilitys that do the job but this one does the job better/easier for me. It does very well with music organized by artist then album. I have processed a discography of 20-30 albums in about an hr. I was able to it that quickly because only a few albums were missing titles and all the albums with missing titles were in the database I was using. I make the artist name uniform I do not what many versions of the same artist. It is surprising how many correct names yo can have for one artist. Ex "The Beatles", "Beatles", Beatles, The", "Beatles The", "The Beatles with Jimmi Hendrix". They have a simple name.
I have not taken the time to try the play the music and have it auto tag. I may let auto tag just do an album and inspect what it did after the fact.
