I just got a ps2 version 70012. It plays ps2 games and music cd's fine.
But when I try to put in a movie dvd, I get " there is no data". I have tried 5 or 6 movie dvd's all the same.What would be the cause of this?

no I do not have a mod chip installed. I will be getting one soon,I hope
would the laser be the cause of this? I do have a new one on the way.

Just too let everyone know. I did fix my ps2. I installed a new laser.That was the problem
