Hey there, got an older hp pavilion xe783 and wonderring about processor speed.. will any processor with 370 socket work ? Or should I ask how would I help it in speed ? I know it needs more than 64 MB`s of ram,, Thinking about going to xp.. Thank You

You will probably struggle to find many Socket 370 CPUs these days, the socket wasn't around for very long so there's not much of an upgrade to be got from it and it became obsolete 7 years ago. RAM you can certainly upgrade though, just make sure it's the same type as you have now.

Thanks Sammorris, don`t know if I got the spelling right.. I had seen some adds or something that I thought the mgzs were a lot higher. maybe not.. One more question can you switgh the original memory strip and still have machine boot ?? DuhBro

megahertz is million cycles per second & gigahertz is billion cycles per second. which is more, million dollars or billion dollars? as long as new ram is compatible with motherboard then yes.

A relatively cheap processor these days for 80 dollars will be equivalent to two CPUs, both of which are more than triple the speed of the fastest P3 ever made.

the highest speed for socket 370 is 1.3 or 1.4ghz. not certain will work on that board as supposedly can only be 766mhz.
