I just bought a used PS2 that worked fine, it is a slim model 77001 or something. Of course I wanted to mod it up to play imports, so I bought the flip top lid and Swapmagic 3.8 cd/DVD set. Well after installing the flip top lid, I somehow forgot to reinstall the cd brake arm and springy thingy. And then of course someone in my family threw it away. Now so far all my original PS2 games will play fine, but the Swapmagic disks will not boot at all. I did som poking around on the net and tried the sensor mods, but it still wont boot the SwapMagic disks. The disk gets recognized as a Ps2 disk, but then it says "No Data" or "Disk read error" or "could not read disk". So here is my question:
-Do I need the cd brake, or is there a way to mod or fix the brake to fool the PS2?
- Could the CD set be damaged? I tend not to think so as it does get recognized by the hardware.
- And Lastly, where can I get a replacement brake if i need to?
I never had a fliptop on my slim, just blocked the sensors, but according to a few posts on this site, the spring is not needed.
Could be you have a bad set of Swap Magic disks. If so you can exchange them usually if you contact the retailer.
To know if the sensors are blocked properly, put a disk in the PS2, turn it on, then lift the lid, if the disc is still spinning, then the sensors are blocked.
Do you have any Original PS2 games, do they play ok?
Yes I can play a regular PS2 game, just not the SwapMagic disks. I tried to contact the retailer, gocybershop.com but he said, basically I needed to insert the disk right. I think that much is clear. I guess I'll try to pester the retailer for another SM set.
I have bought from them. They like to make sure you have tried your best to make them work before you exchange them, or if you have a Friend with a PS2 to try the disks on theirs.
Ok did you also try lifting your lid when you had a disk in, and did it stay spinning?
