I picked up a dell p4 running xp pro. Currently it is using wmp 10 or 11, I do not know which. I wish to revert to wmp 9 for xp pro. I have done so in the past. This time however, 10 will NOT revert to 9. When I attempt to download 9 from a third arty site. I get an error mess, "A NEWER VERSION EXISTS< SET UP WILL NOW EXIT". No opportunity is givin to revert to 9, nor can I find a way to remove 10/11, so I CAN load 9. I cannot find 9 at MICROSOFT. Solutions please.

I would recommend vlc or wmp classic, they can both play virtually anything.

Thank*s. I use both 6.4, vlc, real, quick time. I like P9 for it*s design and ease of use for me. As I said in the past on other towers that had a newer version, the system reverted to P9 if it was previously installed, or if I was downloading it from any source including MICROSOFT. I still need a way to remove version 10 first so I can then load version 9. Any ideas? There does not seem to be a way to do it. The tower in question is what appears to be a newer DELL running xp pro, P4, 2+ gig speed, 512 ram. It functions well. I was thinking of restoreing it to a "RAW" condition, OS, net connection ONLY, as my friend gives me towers he has worked on for me, but I do not know if I can back that far, nor do I know if the player 10 will be removed since it is part of the OS. This is a legitiment copy of xp. Key code included. Is this possible? If yes I will do that and reload everything else. Solutions please.

Thank*s for the advice. I have already found a way to remove P10 and revert to P9. FYI, control panel/ add,remove/ "SHOW UPDATES"/ P10 and/or 11 will be on the list. Remove in the usual way. P9 will appear after removal. As for K-LITE, I am using 4.4.2 FULL associated with WMP 6.4.9.1 (win 95.98.2000) downloaded from a third party site. K-LITE has no effect on P9 nor do codecs specificaly labled as exclusivly for P9. The other three players work when P9 will not. Not a deal breaker.
