Hi all

Wondering if anyone can help.

I have a 1080p mkv file which I wish to convert to dvd dual layer without any quality loss.

1. What I am using to convert the mkv file is a program called 'mkv2vob' This gives me the VOB file. I rename the vob file to VTS_02_1.VOB so that I can use the next program.

2. Next I need the IFO, BUP files etc... I use program called 'ifoedit' This gives me the following files:

VTS_01_0.IFO
VTS_02_1.VOB
VIDEO_TS.IFO
VIDEO_TS.BUP
VTS_01_0.BUP

I then create the folders VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS and put all above files into VIDEO_TS.

Next I need to burn the files, so I open 'dvd shrink' and try to open the files I just created and I get the message:

'Failed to open VTS_01_1.VOB'

My problem is ifoedit didn't create this file, where would I get this VOB file from?????

Any help appreciated.

I think it should be renamed VTS_01_1.VOB.

Ifoedit assumes it's creating files for title 1 (VTS_01) and DVD Shrink is now looking for them (but yours is named VTS_02)

Is mkv2vob actually creating MPEG-2 DVD files - if it isn't then DVD Shrink won't open them anyway.

I renamed it to VTS_01_1.VOB but now dvd shrink gives me the message:

'Invalid data in VTS_01_1.VOB'

When I convert with mkv2vob I choose vob as the output:

Should I be choosing mpg instead??

Are you sure this 'VOB' is an mpeg-2 file?
Drag it onto 'GSpot' and verify.

It isn't going to work.
You are trying to create a DVD from what I assume is an HD MKV source.
The MKV file must be recoded to Mpeg-2 format and re-sized to 720x480 (for a North American NTSC DVD).
Recoding means taking a quality hit.
It won't be HD after conversion.
The program you are using is putting the existing files in a VOB 'container' - but the files are not DVD Compliant.

I looked up this program (mkv2vob) and it says it creates files that a PS3 will accept - I don't have a PS3, so I can't say - I can only assume that PS3's can accept these large resolution files - but they are not DVD standard and cannot be authored to a DVD disk for playback on a standalone DVD player.

I think you should re-post in the HD Forum;you should find someone with better understanding of HD material and offer some options.
