Hi, can you do a straight copy of a blu-ray movie to a blu-ray disc? if so will this work as the original and play in blu-ray players (not pc drives). Also for those that have been ripping for a while, what percentage of blu-ray movies are on 50GB discs?

Cheers guys, any help is much appreciated.

Hi,

VSO Software were able to copy a BluRay to a BD-RE media using Blindwrite (AnyDVD HD running of course)for testing purposes.

With the price of BluRay media, that's still untinkable in my case.

Also if you rip the whole BluDisk Structure, VSO CopyToDVD can also burn the BluDisk Project to a BD media.

ImgBurn (Freeware) can also burn it, just make sure you select UDF 2.5 for the File System.

OK guys new question, can you copy a blu-ray disc onto a DVD-R (or DL) or blu-ray disc (25gb) and keep the HD audio track, i.e. Dolby True HD, DTS HD, etc.

Thanks,
TR.

Thanks for the quick reply, could I ask why its not possible to keep the HD audio on back ups. Is it the space required or a technical issue?

According to bluraystats.com 58.41% of all releases so far are on BD50. If you filter for all 2008 releases - 66.54% are on BD50.

Go to this site:

http://www.blu-raystats.com/Stats/Stats.php

Click on the Size tab and choose BD50 then click Filter. You'll get a list of all titles on 50Gig discs.

You can keep any audio stream you like, including HD audio... especially if you are using a BD25. If capacity is still an issue the video can be recoded to accomodate the HD audio track. With a 2hr movie, most of the time the video and HD audio will fit on a BD25 both untouched.

-LPCM muxes/plays fine with tsMuxeR
-DTS HD-MA muxes/plays fine with tsMuxeR
-TrueHD does mux, does not play using tsMuxeR

Workarounds for the tsMuxeR/TrueHD issue are;
-Mux to m2ts with video, then remux to Blu-ray with tsremux. There have been instances where this does not work... like with The Dark Knight.
-Convert TrueHD to LPCM using eac3to, then make that file tsMuxeR compatible using pcm2tsmu. There is no quality loss going this route, unfortunately the space that the LPCM track will take up is enormous. If you intend on streaming, or have a BD-RE 50GB this is not an issue.
