Problems files burning onto DVD with nero, please help

Ive been having trouble copying data files (adobe documents) to be exact on to dvd+R, but it lets me burn them onto a CdR if i copy them in that format.
Also have no trouble copying AVI files to dvd using convertX so i know its not my burner or the DVd disks im using. probaly be something simple and trival, but any help would be grately appreciated.
