Hi there,

I have just purchased an Action Replay Max with support for usb drives and a Tiny Disk 2g flash drive (USB 2.0). My software does seem to recognise when something is in the usb plug, however, it wont read from my disk. None of the files I put on there will show up.

What I wanted to know is, is this a formatting problem? I read somewhere that ps2 reads fat12 (don't know if that's true or not.) I tried formatting it with the two options my computer gave to me, FAT and FAT32. I know the drive works because I've used it on different computers.

Is there a program out there that will let me format the disk to be readable by ps2? If not, can anyone recommend a small, cheap drive that ps2 will read? Thanks for taking the time to read my problem, everyone!

Not all usb flash drives are compatible with the PS2, so you may have to try another if you have one.
They do have to be formatted as FAT32

Update: Okay, for anyone else who may have this problem with their stick, let me offer what I've discovered through trial and error.

First: I was attempting to format the usb drive with the utility that came with my copy of windows xp, updated to service pack 3. It only gave me the option to format between FAT and FAT 32. Working under the possibility that the ps2 may read FAT 12 (which I never got verified one way or another) I downloaded the hp disk format utility which I was told offered more options. It only had one other and I don't even know what it was for. HOWEVER, it did the job and Action Replay Max now recognized the file on my drive when it was formatted to FAT.

[EDIT: To be clear, I did try the FAT and the FAT 32 format through the windows utility and they were not recognized. I do not know why this should have been an issue but it's not like this is the first time M$ has put out a shoddy product.]

Second: As Smokyrain pointed out, yes, PS2 would then not recognize the disk until it was formatted to FAT 32.

If any of you are having trouble getting the system to read your usb drive, try reformatting it with the HP disk formatting utility befor eyou go out and buy a new one.
