I have a scph-30001 ps2. A couple of years ago it started freezing during gameplay. I cleaned the laser and still no luck. I took it to G2K games for repair and they said it was something with the motherboard. I recently tryed it again with no luck. Does anyone have any idea how to fix this problem?
Thanks.

Did you clean the whole laser?
The laser has two lenses. Top and bottom. You can clean the second lens with compressed air. Also, with one drop of light machine oil, lubricate the worm gear and check if the tab on the worm gear is sticking. Also, check your discs, dirt and scratches are most common cause of game freeze.
I don't think the MB would cause the problem.

I did forget to tell you to lubricate the laser's rails-use dielectric grease, a very small amount is all that is needed.
Also, be sure the magnetic disc is free of dust
You can also try adjusting the white cog wheels.
It's a little time consuming, but sometimes it helps with game freeze.
To do this, mark the cog wheel's original location so you can put it back if this does not help.
Next, turn the cogwheel one notch at a time (either direction), testing a DVD and CD after each turn.
If none of this helps-move your console to a cooler area.

Hey drklrd1,
I've already tryed all of that also. I oiled it adjusted white cog, etc. The only thing I've not tryed is adjusting the laser voltage.

If you plan on replacing the laser anyway just in case-that might help-some consoles were made with the settings too low.
Just mark the original position before you begin and give it a shot.
