Hi all, please bear with me. I have an older unit I would like to upgrade the CPU, I currently run AMD Athlon XP-M 1500+ 1.33ghz
I only really use this for general web surfing and picture downloading to my hosting site. No gaming or video as I am stuck on dial-up, no high speed access here.
Can anyone tell me a compatable cpu to upgrade to? My motherboard says "M810D", I think it is a Pc chips board, runs sis stuff. I'm looking for stuff on e-bay if that helps. I'm just not sure how to tell if the used cpu stuff I'm looking at is compatable. Thanks all!

whatever cpu you get has to be socket compatible which in your case is socket 462. do you still have the motherboard manual? look om the motherboard & see which m810 is printed on the circuit board not on the chips as there is different versions of m810 boards by pc-chips.
OK, here's a lesson. If you don't learn how to do things for yourself, you will be a perpetual newbie and dependent on others for everything.
1. The motherboard usually has something that also provides information on it's manufacturer. Model number alone is sometimes not enough.
2.Try googling the motherboard model number. If you figured out how to get here an post it, you should also be able to google it. After all, that's what any of trying to help you is probably going to start with.
3. This one wasn't very hard to find, so I'm guessing you didn't even try. This is a PC Chips motherboard, and there's even a link to the PC chips website within the first 4 google hits.
4. Gee surprise, a minimal search on the PC Chips website even has . . wait for it . . . A CPU support guide for this mother board. It appears that the most powerful CPU supported for this mobo is 2600+(.13u) (256,266,Socket 462).
Thank you both for your replies. Dailun, some people are better at certain things than others. I am the guy that will have an answer for you almost immediately on certain automotive how-to forums (I understand your "newbie fails to search first" frustration). Although I had not spent a lot of time researching this I also am not much into computers (building and repairing) and the terms used so the immediate sites I researched I could not decipher. But that is how I found where to look for my mobo model number. And on that google search page is how I found this site. So in all reality you are correct on all counts. OK, point made. I think you are selling yourself short on your abilities, though.
Searching for mobo specs is little different than searching for the part number of the left blinker Light lens for a 1973 MGB-GT.
Anyway, I hope that you are successful on your upgrade projet.
You might get lucky and find a socket 462 CPU, but for slightly more money, you could probably upgrade everything.
I just upgraded to a, AMD X2 5600+ with 2GB of RAM. CPU, mobo, FAN and RAM for less than $100.00 USD. Even the fastest CPU that can fit your existing motherboard is woefully inadequate for all but the simplest of activities. I have a laptop with an FX 3400+ and I only use it as a DVD player.
