I am yet another user frustrated with Nero 7 Ultra's Vision. I am running Vista on a machine with far more than enough memory, drive space, and CPU horsepower. I installed this on an old spare XP SP3 machine (also with decent hardware) and got the same results. I'm not sure which version of 7 I have, as Nero Info doesn't appear to show the overall product version number, but the newest version I see listed by Info is 7.10.1.0. My Vision is version 4.9.7.2. I didn't have any install problems so I suspect I have a version 7 update that should be Vista-compatible.
I do legally own this and have contacted Nero tech support, but from what I've read here and at the my.nero forums I don't anticipate any speedy responses, and I really need to burn this DVD today. BurningROM works great, and Vision's capture (MiniDV via Firewire) worked fine, and I was able to use Visio to piece together a movie with the captured MPEG plus an AVI that I captured previously with MovieMaker. I was able to create all the menus and chapters just fine, too.
However, any attempt to output the results ends in a hang during transcoding. I've tried burning directly to disc, writing to a folder (figuring I'd use DVDShrink to make an ISO), and writing to the Nero image format with the Burn to Image Recorder option. In all cases, it hangs the first time it attempts any transcoding.
From reading similar problems, it sounds like one of the version 8 upgrades might solve my problem, but of course Nero is now on version 9, which I gather I want to avoid at all costs. Is a reliable version of Nero 8 available somewhere that'll work with my Nero 7 license key? Does anybody have other suggestions about what I might try (other than "use something else").
