I currently use MKV2VOB to convert HD MKV files and it gives three codec options - mpeg2, xvid, and x264. Supposedly someone says x264 gives me the best video quality but it takes frustratingly long time to transcode the file while others say the picture quality on all three codes are pretty much the same to naked eyes and only the file size is larger with mpeg2 etc. If that's the case I have no issue since I have a plenty HDD space. It would be easier for me to just test it out side by side but x264 conversion takes days on my old pc so I thought I'll ask the experts here. thanks!
