i have a gateway mfatxpnt mdw 5oos p4h that quits about 4 seconds during booting. have tried resetting ram sticks, cmos battery(and changing it) tried a different hard drive, resetting the vid card, pulling bios jump, resetting ide and all cables. fans seem to work fine. i had a second of good luck after about 50 boots it went all the way through but mouse nor keyboard responded..........is the motherboard fried? any help is appreciated

You have perseverance for sure.

After about the 5th try I'd be looking for another motherboard.

Did you try another power supply?

If the power supply is on the flaky side it could cause a mobo shutdown.

lol well thanks for the comment, didnt try another power supply since there is a test button and "seems" to run fine. i know this is a noob question but is it possible to exchange the ps with any other ps or does it have to be of the same maker? thanks again for the help

I don't know that particular model of Gateway. Some Gateways have proprietary supplies, Some have standard ATX form factor supplies. This is a newer one so it may be standard.

The stock power supply is 350W, so you may be able to swap/test with any 350W or higher ATX supply that is P4 capable.

Look at the mobo power connector and see if it matches a standard mobo connector.
