I ripped Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back and cut out everything but the main movie and the Dolby Digital sound stream. The movie is barely an hour and a half long and all these stripped files add up to 5.2GB?!?!? I'm totally confused. I thought perhaps they just used a really high bitrate on the disk for some reason. I transcoded it at about 80% of its original bitrate and the quality is crap. Anyone know what might be taking up so much space on this disk? I checked all the vob's with Vobrator and even stripped out the alternate language credit angles.

Ive had the same sort of thing happen with Monsters Inc . The problem was Ifoedit , I used it to strip streams and rebuild the movie in a new folder but somehow the movie restarted part way in and made the resulting movie huge . What was even stranger was that you could play the movie from Ifoedit and it appearred OK , the problem showed up when I had demuxed the film and used Rempeg on it . I worked around it by just demuxing the film straight from DVD using smartripper and I found that it easily fit on 1 DVD-R with space for 2 sound tracks the only problem is you need to re-author the bits of the movie back together with Spruceup or DVD Maestro ETC which means more software to buy and learn
