windows system service eating 60mb memory is it virus?

ji i have a system process in the task manager called system i didint have it but now i have i dont think is a virus but ive read that is a comon spyware i tried to kill the procces but it shutdown my pc something about a windows critical service shut down in 45 secods the i made a scan with avg free and found nothing idk what it is how can i turn it off ?
please help

The "system" process is mandatory for Windows, but shouldn't be using 60MB. Mine only uses about 108KB. Do you have two "system" processes in your Task Manager?

no i only have one i think is form windows but it still using 60mb of ram that unusal isntit? how can i turn it the way it was? thanxs for replay

My understanding of these "processes" is that they are associated with numerous dll files which correspond to the total memory usage. It may be possible that a virus of some sort added dll files to that process. It could just be dll files associated with programs that you have installed on your system. I'm in no way saying that you are infected. I have no idea since it's not my computer and I have no idea as to what is installed on your system. For all I know you may have a lot of crap running that I don't have on mine.
Sorry, but I just don't know enough about "processes" or what's on your system to properly help you. There are supposedly programs out there that are supposed to be able to show you what dll files are running with each process. I've never used any of them myself. This may be something you want to check with Microsoft's website itself and ask them.

On a fresh install of Windows XP Pro x86 with SP3 and all currently available Windows updates installed I haven't noticed this behavior.
After installing Zune software version 3.1.620.0, "System" eats up 61,416 K. On other PC's with out the Zune software I have not noticed this behavior.
Anyone else have any more information? I'm starting to think back to after a .NET install that caused similar behavior.
Is this another one of those issues in another form of a recent Microsoft update/program?

i recently did a fresh install of windows xp porfessional x86 and i didnt istalled anithing just avg 8.0 free and i just did the sp3 update and exploerer 7 an windows media player update i restarted my computer and the process system was there again i think it might be a update but idk wichone causes this behavior y anyone has more info on this please help

These two apps can tell what process belongs to what program both are trusted & are safe
process explorer by systinternals,gives details of running process in realtime & what program is accessing it,click on process utility icon then download the app process explorer

next up we have uniblue quickaccess, clik on the blue mark at left of task manager to get a webpage to open up & tell you what the process is,after you have installed the app

BOTH APPS MICROSOFT CERTIFIED & both have lite footprint when in use,actually i don't think process explorer is installed it runs from a folder so you can leave it in,i've got it in a folder i created in the all progs list

I solved it
The system process eat 60 mb of memory
Because of avgas antivirus
You have to uninstall it only with the clean tool "avgremover" from AVG site:
http://www.avg.com/download-tools
& then reinstall again
The system process will get back to its normal size..

i didi it but a soon as i installed again the avg it went again to 60mb

Dump it & get clamwin or avira both have small footprints & not boatware like avg or avast if you need a light real time spyware scanner spywareterminator,with spyterm make sure HIPS is enabled when installed,any program that attempts to installed will be blocked until you let or if you select install mode,all these programs are for free
This is all i use for security
Clamwin
spywareterminator
windows firewall
SP2 & all updates tho have now gone to
SP3 & all xp updates
In the past i used spyware blaster,adaware free,spybot,however spywareterminator pisses on all of em, tho i must admit i did keep them installed for a while before deleting them since i did'nt know at the time if spyterm would be any good
