pc keeps rebooting any help ?

Hi everyone im new to afterdawn, but been threw alot of the threads, and i must say this is one cool forum and its helped me alot. looking forward to discussing matters on here. introduction over lol,
anyways im having trouble with my pc , it sometimes goes onto a blue screen for like a second then reboots. iv noticed it only does it when iv got about 3 programmes running ( dont know weather thats got anything to do with it?)when im surfing the net my pc is working fine and dont reboot.
my pc is a intel core 2 e6550 @ 2.33 ghz
2048mb of ram memory
500w psu
150 gb hdd
and a geforce 8600gt nvidia graphics card.
Also in the bios my cpu voltage is 1.3500v and on the right hand side it displays a message. red: NOT RECOMMENDED SETTINGS SYSTEM MAY BE UNSTABLE. could this have something to do with the problem.
could it be that my pc is underpowerd. and i will need a new psu maybe 800w.
Any help will be much appreciated. thanks

have you tried clearing the cmos? are you overclocking your system? could try another psu to see if still have problem or not.

Hi ddp thanks for your reply, no i havent overclocked it,i dont know how to , could i have done this by mistake and what is cmos ? and how do i clear it.
Im going to purchase a new psu soon but i just wanted to clear up all possibilities.
Also when i first turn my pc on the pc comes on then goes off for about 2 seconds then boots up , im thinking its got something to do with power but could be wrong . any more suggestions would be a big help , thanks.

check your motherboard manual or computer guide on how to clear the cmos. the cmos holds the computer configuration like drives, ports, cpu speed & time & date. it is powered by a disk shaped cr2032 battery.

Hello ddp iv read the manual and i know how to clear the cmos, but what data will it clear ?. It wont clear any of my data and software from my hdd will it. also when iv changed the jumper to 2-3 pin do i turn the computer on or leave it off? then return the jumper to 1-2 pin.

cmos doesn't touch info on hd. disconnect external power cord, move jumper over for 10 count, move jumper back & reconnect power cord. will have to access bios to redo time, date & other things like boot sequence.

The only time I've had a similar problem, it's always been video card related. Make sure your video card has the latest drivers.
Sometimes if the video card get's too hot it will bluescreen. You can place a case fan next to it, to keep it cool.

yes it may be caused by video card, intsall latest drivers or try to run your Pc in vga mode

Hi guys thanks for the replys , my graphics card is a geforce 8600gt 512 mb 540mhz core do you think this could be incompatible with my system. its already got a fan built onto the card, but ill put another fan directly on to it , see if that does the job.

What does the BSOD include? It could be anything. I had a different BSOD each time, turns out the mobo I had was VERY dodgy. Have you changed any hardware recently?

Hi alex, i think your right there may be something wrong with my hardware according to BSOD.I dont think its my motherboard thats dodgy.how can i get to read the bsod because it goes off straight away? cheers mate
