Need opinions on best PC software for PVR

I'm wanting to use a spare computer as a PVR, and am wanting some advice on what to look for in regards to a video card and software. I've read reviews of several, but would like to hear from the experts :)
It's just your basic projection TV, Hardon\Kardon receiver, dvd, etc. I get my stations through Dish network.
(I'm also making another post about something related about what I want to do with this setup, but due to the topic requirements, I decided to make another post.)
