This Samsung DVD recorder has been playing up. When inserting a DVD, it loads it & then, most often, plays it (with the timer running on the LCD display at the front of the unit) but the screen appears black. There is also a small black box in the top left corner which contains static-like bars (mainly white, occasionally green & other colours) that flicker about while the DVD is playing.
I also can't access the Setup or Menu of either the DVD or recorder unit at any point.

The TV function works fine (it's connected to a Sky+ box) and the Sky works whether the DVD recorder is on & the TV function is selected, or whether it's off.

When toggling between the TV/DVD functions (while a DVD is playing), the screen flickers & I can make out parts of the DVD playing, but then the black screen appears again, with the small black box in the top-left corner containing flickering lines (when toggling from TV to DVD).

I have tried the unit with a different TV, as well as different Scart leads & DVDs, but with the same result.

I would really appreciate if anyone could tell me what the actual problem is, and how to fix it.
