my norton has come to find a trojan.brisv.a!inf and i tried to remove it with the symantec tool they recommend but that didnt work. i was wonderin if anyone else had any ideas for me.
You are in luck my friend. My idiot brother downloaded that virus last week with Limewire. Even though I have Norton 360 2.0, and will always use their software, it was however unsuccessful in removing it. But here's what I did to remove it:
First you need to find where the virus is. For me, it was where Limewire downloads music, in either the 'Incomplete' or folder where you save music. Mine was in the incomplete folder, and I could already tell which file it was because it was named "Corrupt-Artist-Songname". If you didn?t use limewire, try to look in the latest folders you used for downloading. If still no luck, the only other option I can think of is to use norton to scan and find where is it. Once you found it follow these steps:
1. Go to control panel.
2. Make sure your in classic view.
3. Go to user accounts.
4. Go to "Turn user account control, and make sure the box is unchecked.
5. Press OK, and restart.
6. When the computer starts you will see your computer's hardware being listed. When you see this information start to tap F8 repeatedly until you are presented with the Windows Vista Advanced Boot Options.
7.Select the Safe Mode option using the arrow keys. Then press the enter key on your keyboard to boot into Vista Safe Mode.
8. Now that your computer has booted and you?re in safe mode, just locate the file, and you should now be able to just simply delete it and send it to the recycle bin. Before you restart your computer again, make sure you empty the recycle bin (in other words make sure it the file is perminately deleted). Then restart and run a full system scan again.
That how it worked for me. If it doesn't work for you, then the only other option I can find is to do a full system scan with norton and try that downloadable tool if it doesn't get rid of it. But when you scan make sure you are still in safe mode. The virus doesn't let you manually delete it because it needs "admin rights" to delete it, but is disables those rights for that file so that you can't.
