I had trouble from the first day of using my Toshiba Satellite P15 S479, with the CD/DVD combo drive. At first, it would simply take many times of re-closing the drive door, before the drive would read a disk (CD or DVD). I complained about this to Tech Support, more than once, including when I had other problems and when I was having no other trouble. I had purchased an extended warranty and kept complaining about this, but got no help other than trying to update drivers. I talked with them about sending the unit in for repair, but didn't want to spend $500.00 or more on it. I found a new replacement combo drive (Matshita UJ 811) for $80.00 on eBay and installed it. The system detected it, rebooted, and now I get the same error as before.
Here's the notation:
The driver detected a controller error on Device/CDRom0
I tried another fix (from another thread) of changing the transfer to P10 only, but no better with that.
I tried a driver update again, but it says it can't find a better match.
Does anyone have any other ideas?
Thanks,
Doug
