No video displayed in palyer windows

Greetings, Oh Wise Ones

Anyone have any idea why my PC would suddenly stop showing the video on any video player I try to use on my Windows XP machine running Media Center 2005. I mean whatever I play, DVDs using Power DVD or Win DVD, xvid avi files with VLC Player or windows media player you name it (though I've had some success with Windows Media Center). the sound is there but not the video. These are files and DVDs that worked previously so it is not for lack of codecs. Now I'm not talking about not being able to display on a second display, I mean the computer monitor itself. I have burned some of these files and played them on stand alone DVD players so it's not the files either.
