these days am downloading blu ray films and i found that there are two kinds
one is blu ray 720p and other is blu ray 1080p
so i become with some questions

1- what is the difference between blu ray 720p and blu ray 1080p ? i wanted to download blu ray heroes but i found it in usenet with bluray 720p not 1080p
is there a great diff. in picture and audio quality between them ?

2- if i buy for example blu ray heroes seasons from amazon , is there any chance it will be 720p not 1080p?

3- What is the diff. between HD DVD movie 720p and blu ray movie 720p! same question goes for dvd.cfm" class="forum_link" target="_blank">HD DVD movie 1080p and Blu ray movie 1080p!

a freind of mine told me that HD DVD and BLu ray DVD has nothing to do with quality since they are only a storage disc , what makes it really differenct is the resolution wether its 720p or 1080p

is this true ?
and if its , then HD DVD 1080p will have the same picture and audio quality as Blu ray 1080p since they have the same resolution

help!

1080p (1920 x 1080 pixels) is a higher resolution than 720p (1366 x 768 pixels). Most blu-rays are 1080p, the exceptions usually being TV shows. The reasons why there are so many 720p downloads are because you need hardware good enough to play 1080p, some people can't see the difference between 1080 and 720, and file sizes are smaller with 720p making them easier to share. There is no difference between bluray 720 and hddvd 720.

thanks for replaying

i found blu ray heroes on internet but 720p Blu ray
so the one who uploaded it he ripped it from a real blu ray , if real blu ray is 1080p how he decreased it to 720p!

if i buy original heroes blu ray or other tv shows blu ray . will it be 720p ( since all of them are shown in tv with that resolution ) or it will be 1080p?

plus is there a difference between HD DVD 1080p and Blu ray movie 1080p ?

thanks again

Hey KidKappa... sorry to step on your toes but 720p HD res is 1280x720. The resolution you are referring to is usually native to PC displays and most 720p LCD TVs... nothing to do with the HD standard.

Also, Heroes on BD is 1080p. When uploaders take something that is 1080p and shrink it to 720p it is just a matter of resizing/recoding... really simple to do.

Technically you can resize it, but you are not going gain picture quality.

As for the blu-ray rips, they will be better than the HDTV broadcasts... 720p or 1080p, as long as they were originally encoded properly.

technically the picture quality will decrease as the pixels will become "larger". the pricipal is the same as when you zoom in on a picture and it becomes pixelated as the pixels have been made bigger so it is easier to see as it is bigger or easier to edit.

Really it just has to do with the video bitrate (how much video information is contained in the file). Most of the 720p rips will be around 7-8k bitrate, while 1080p can get up as high as 15k. Thats almost twice as much information, therefore much more detail. But that also means twice the file size. Many people prefer 720p because file size is much smaller, but it also still looks fantastic.

Also many rips rely on the person who did the ripping. Just because something is labeled 1080p doesnt mean its going to look way better. If the person ripping it didnt know what they were doing then you could get a 1080p but with a bitrate of like 10k, kind of a waste.
