Just installed UBUNTU 7.10, but for some reason I cannot read or mount any CD or DVD in my drive. It is just not recognised by Ubuntu. I thought this was just the case with 8.0 but I reinstalled 7.10 and I still can't read any CDs or DVDs
Can anyone please help..

Google for "ubuntu [your DVD drive's make and model]"
You'll probably just have to make a little tweak to your boot configuration, but can't be sure unless you say what your hardware is.

The CDDVD drive model is Samsung SH-S202N. I tried googling it but could not find anything relating to Ubuntu.

Looks to be an Ubuntu issue. There is an Ubuntu 8.10 and 8.04, I don't know which you refer to, but 8.10 is the most recent and may have fixed the bug with a more recent kernel.

It also looks like the drive itself doesn't help. You may need a new firmware on the drive, or a new 80 wire cable, or some people suggesting a PCI-IDE card. If it is a new box, check cabling and master/slave jumpers. Beyond that, post over at the Ubuntu forums, might be isolated to them.

First step should be to look at fstab and see where the drive is.. unless it's there anything else is a waste of time.
