Getting an internal DVD burner

Hi! New to the forums and needing some assistance.
I do not have a DVD burner and after looking around I am going to get an internal one. My PC is a Sony Vaio. I only have 2 spots at the front for these things - one is my cd burner and the other is just a cd rom. I want to take out the cd rom and replace it with the DVD burner.
My issue is that the computer has little doors that hide the burners themselves - a cosmetic thing, which simply fold down when U open the door to either the burner or the cd rom.
Long story short -
here is the burner I am looking at getting:

Yes when you take the front off you'll see it's a standard cd rom or burner put the new one in it's place set the jumper to the same as the one you remove and it will be fine the little door is just extra no big deal

ok but one ques - what is a jumper?
Will I need any other wires to connect this? The setup on the back of the burner says it needs the following:
SATA power connector and SATA data connector - are these already hooked up to the exisitng cd rom in the PC?

my sony vaio has the old style IDE cable and does not run sata style drives you should pull the old drive from your pc to make sure you can run the new style sata if not just get the old style IDE burner they are just as good the jumper is just the small clip that changes the drive from Cable Select,Master or Slave just look on the back where you plug the cables in and set it as the same as the old one

I do not think your motherboard has SATA connection. So you need a SATA interface board or simply look for IDE burner instead.
Though if your Vaio did not even come with the DVD-ROM, you may need more than just a DVD burner.
Could you tell little more about your system? (CPU, Memory, OS). If you have not upgraded those, getting new PC may be cheaper?

If thats the case it might be better just to get an External.

Sorry - was just looking further and it appears my machine does have a Dvd writer. IN hardware it reads Pioneer DVD-RW.
Does this mean that I can burn DVD's?
If so, where can I get DVD burning software that would work?

Your system is good enough to have DVD burner. (I prefer to stick with it for now than getting a new system with Vista.) I?ve just thought your system is much older.
(My quick search shows PCV-RS610 should come with DVD-RW?)
I suggest just look for IDE burner. How about Sony DRUV200A/BR instead?

Sorry, my previous reply was little too late.
System should come with burning software (Typically Roxio or Nero.)
Though many here suggest ImgBurn for burning and it?s FREE!

I actually have NTI DVD gold - not sure if thats good.
Now heres the ques - how do I copy a DVD that I have rented and burn a copy of it with the exisiting system I have?
