First i got my PC repaired recently. My motherboard and one stick of RAM was fryed. Which was replaced aswell as a new power supply. It was fine before i sent it in. Now all games even old ones on all settings from the lowest to the highest are choppy. (note my computer was able to play most on high perfectly) I thought that the problem was that i only had 3 Gbs of RAM or i upgraded to 4. But it still says on the system information (right click on my computer) 3 Gbs. My specs are:
AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual 4800+
2.51 GHz, 3.00 GB of RAM (but should be 4)
NVIDIA GeForce 9600 GT 512Mb

I'm gonna call the repair people and inform them of this issue as soon as i can. I would like to know if its something i can fix myself so i don't have to spend anymore money. Because any repair there is costly.

I'm guessing something's happened to your ForceWare driver (The one for your graphics card), download it straight from nVidia here; http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us

And the problem with your RAM displaying as 3GB - It's due to the fact you're using a 32bit operating system; they can't detect more than 4GB, and some of this is already allocated (such as the 512MB for your graphics card), so it will always show as less than 4GB unless you upgrade to a 64bit operating system.

PSP, all the way from 1.00 to 5.50 GEN D2 - DS Lite w/ M3DS Real (M3 Sakura v1.34)
PS3 3.01 - iPod Touch 2G 16GB Jailbroken - Xbox 360 60GB - PC, Q6600, 3GB DDR2, GTX260 (216) 896MB

I downloaded all drivers. The graphics driver update was up to date, but the motherboard driver had a recommended update v12.15. I was unsure about that one because it was an older version then the one i had v15.23, but I tryed anyway at hopes of fixing this. When it installed and restarted my computer it seemed to work fine. The next day though my computer started to glitch out and restart every 5 to 10 minutes.
I called the place that I got it repaired and they said that because of the new motherboard i need to reinstall the OS. So I formated and reinstalled windows xp. I installed all the drivers, but when I update my motherboard on the nvidia site. I installed the recommended update of v15.23. But when I go back to the recommended update, it says again to install the older version update v12.15. I'm not sure if i should try it again or if its a glitch.
The choppy games on all settings is still happenning, sometimes it is much worse then other times. I called the place again and they suggested to get a new video card. edited by ddp won't help unless I pay then. Please I don't want to have to buy a new videocard.

all games use v-card. with a system like that, games should work great, but obviously you're having a problem. you should have just replied here saying "video drivers updated, still doesn't work", then i could have told you, that i'm pretty sure your video card is fryed too.

all that hassle you went through...

maybe you have a rubbish video card from an old system that you could test in the system in question? i'd recommend making a system restore point before you begin so you can sort any new problems out easily.

Alright I'll give it a shot. If it is my card thats fryed, which is a good one to buy? (Nvidia or ATI) I'm looking for a decent one that isn't going to cost more then $300. This is my first time using an nvidia card. ATI cards havn't giving me this much of a problem so I might go back to them. Any suggestions on a good card thats not $400 bucks would be appreciated. Thanks

first i would buy a card for $1 4mb vram/really old basically. just to confirm it is the card. after which, if you can play an old game, then you can purchase.

I think ati is really good. nvidia is excellent too. i've had both and there is a reason they're the top two. it doesn't matter which you choose. you can't go wrong with either.
