My backups work fine for a day or two then begin to freeze. I'm
using IMG burn and Maxell DVD's to burn them onto. I read on another forum that Maxell DVD's are not good and they recommed
Sony. Could this be the problem?

I set IMG to read at 4x4 and it writes at max. Any advise would be greatly appricated.

If by 'img' you are referring to imgburn then set it to 4x and try memorex i think they are ok for backups (if not then maybe one of the more informed users on here can correct me about the disc type)

Memorex are actually considered crap media for PS2.
Now although many users do use them and they work for them, does not mean they will last forever.
Lots of crappy media may work in your PS2, but in the long run is not best.
It is the media id that is important, not so much as the brand name.

I myself have used a few different kinds, Verbatim DVD-R, Sony DVD-R

It also depends upon your burner, and of course the speed which you write at.

I haven't had a disk go bad yet or not work.
