Getting ready to do as much of an overhaul to my laptop as possible (hard drive, memory on hardware side; maybe new os and whatnot on software end). Wasn't paying any attention to the operating system until tinkering around and possibly coming across evidence that my laptop is in fact 64 bit compatible even if not marketed that way.
It came with a gig of ram (2 x 512) and a T7200 core 2 running at 2 ghz. I was looking into the Merom architecture some about 20 minutes ago along with running some SIW software and noticed 64 bit alongside my processor. Ran PC Wizard 08 juts to double check, and it's saying no to the itanium IA-64 technology but yes to EM64T.
If that's the case, then I'm fully ready to go to a 64 bit OS, assuming my computer can handle it?
Also, if I would put a 64 bit copy of XP on my computer, what would that limit my memory capabilities to be?
Effectively limitless. 64-bit windows can accept more memory than your laptop will fit, at least 16GB. Just a word of warning though, XP 64-bit has very poor compatibility, far worse than 64-bit Vista.
