I recently purchsed a new computer from dell and it came with xp pro installed. I installed vista business on a seperate drive and it is setup to dual boot. I thought vista would work better for me but wanted to try it out to be sure. Vista of course does not work better for me due to all of the program crashes and internet explorer lock ups. The graphics card works perfectly in vista but won't work in xp. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers several times and also used Driver Cleaner Pro v1.5 to remove all exsisting video drivers including the on board intergrated drivers that came pre installed. Everytime I restart xp and look in the device manager it shows the card as having a code 10. Sometimes when I right click and disable and then after a few screen flashes and then right click again and enable the card, it will start working. But upon reboot it starts all over again with the code 10. I know the card works fine with xp pro because I had it in another system for about a year that was running xp pro and it worked flawlessly. I need XP pro because I use the computer for light Autocad use and for another program that is very unstable in vista but runs fine in Xp. The reason I haven't called dell tech support is that they will only tell me they don't support my aftermarket graphics card and that they will only guarantee the products that they sell. By the way the card is a PNY Verto GeForce 8500GT 512MB PCIe. I know it's not the best card but it's better than the intergrated grapics controller and it is just laying around not being used.

Here is the card: http://www.amazon.com/PNY-Verto-GeForce-...B/dp/B000P9CWTI

I've already tried those drivers and they didn't work. I'm at wits end. Earlier I tried removing the graphics card from my pc and reinstalling drivers for the onboard video but it won't work either. I get a code 37 in the device manager for the onboard video.

From what you say you're doing with the computer, I would think the on board video would suffice...

Did you try to disable the mobo video in the bios?

That's what I'm saying, the onboard graphics isn't working either. The bios has an auto detect setting for the graphics card. If it detects a graphics card it uses it if it doesn't detect a graphics card it uses the onboard.

I pulled the graphics card and the onboard doesn't work either, it displays the code 37 in device manager and runs the vgasave drivers.

I've tried updating all my mobo chipset drivers. Everything is current. The only thing I can think of is to try and do a complete reinstall of xp but I thought there would be an easier fix.
