Does it always take a long time to compress movies with rebuilder? It's working on 1 1/2 hours.
I am using a dual core 2 laptop with 2gb of ram and a 1tb external usb drive. I figure this slows the process down some.
The movie is 5.2GB. I am using the HC encoder.
Advice welcome. Thanks so much.

I would say that is a pretty decent time for a laptop and using an external hard drive. If you haven't already (and you have the space) put your "Working" folder on your internal HDD and leave your output to your external. This will help a little.
My average time is about 60 min. with a dual core @ 2.9 gHz and 2gb of RAM.

The above Rebuilder times concur with the (few) times i use one of my Dual Core E6400 (2.13GHz) machines, times using my Quad Core Q6600 are roughly 45mins for main movie mode and about an hour for a full disc episodic

There are many reasons for the time it takes to encode. The main one is the computer like stated above.
Different encoders will also record at different speeds.
Fragmentation of the HDD.
Multitasking on a slower computer will also slow down the encode.
The use of filters.
Etc. etc. tec.
99% of all problems are between the computer and the chair.
