I had a new PC built with XP home service pack 3 but I cannot find any trace of WordPad - I have Notepad but not Word
it is not in the start menu / accessories / and I cannot find it anywhere even typed it into Run
I do have OpenOffice installed but I want to have WordPad
any reason or options?

Did you do a search for the file wordpad.exe on the C:\windows directory?

On my computer it's in

C:\WINDOWS\ServicePackFiles\i386

Wordpad can be found in the i386 folder, but it typically runs from the following folder.

C:\Program Files\Windows NT\Accessories

Wordpad isn't an option to add/remove. You'll need to manually install it. Here are the steps.

Go to the Control Panel/Folder Options/View tab, set it to "Show hidden files and folders" and uncheck "Hide protected operating system files [recommended]". Also uncheck "Hide extensions for known file types".

Then, open Windows Explorer from Start/All Programs and go to the C:\Windows\Inf folder. Locate the wordpad.inf file, right-click it and
choose install.

You may need to either insert your WinXP CD or know where your I386 folder is located on the hard drive. You may also need to know where the \ServicePackFiles folder is (usually under the Windows directory).

i believe that because you can't find it it may be hidden, search on how to se ehidden files and folders, otherwise use run, windows and the R Key, And type wordpad in run. if that doesnt work im not sure what it could be
