Personally, I would always go with crossfire or a single ATI card rather than Nvidia. ATI has always been more reliable from my experience. Any of the ATI Radeon? HD 4800 Series will be 'good', depending on what games you will be playing. I recommend a Radeon HD 4870 X2, I got one in my PC and it is friggin amazing.

It's also good that your choosing an Intel CPU instead of AMD. AMD is crap in CPU's, Intel is amazing. Intel is crap in GPU's, and AMD is amazing. Therefore, get a Intel CPU (i7) and AMD GPU (HD 4870 X2) and your set.

While I do agree with your sentiments mike, that is a bit of a blunt way of putting it. However, refitting a video card in a Dell isn't that simple. You will need to keep it relatively low end so it will work with the power supply. What's your current video card?

The ati 4670 gets good reviews and is very low power hungry, it will set you back less than a 100 bucks and can play most of the latest games at low settings.

I have an ati 1650 (very low end 55.00) and it has no problem playing need for speed most wanted, even ut2007 was playable on it, but a little slow.

If you just want to play the occasional game the 4670 should do the trick, the more expensive 200.00+ video cards are for serious gamers with high powered cpu's and expensive power supplys.

The 4670 can be be crossfired and has good HD video capabilitys. Just make sure you get the right one, theres a cheaper 4650 which is slower.

Just make sure you have the available pci-express slot on your motherboard.

If you have a PCIe slot (I believe the XPS 420 does), you can get away with an HD4650 for sure, probably an HD4670 (no guarantees). Even the HD4650 is 5 to 10 times as powerful as an X300.

This one is the best of the four:

Just so you know, the X300se was introduced in June 2004 as the bottom end product of the time, so not only is it nearly 5 years old, it was also the budget card back then.

Up to you really, XP vs Vista is more a personal thing. XP can only see up to 3.5GB of RAM though.
