R4 SDHC load error on MP3 files - any help please

Hello, first post.
I have a R4 SDHC with 8gb MicroSD card - the 8gb is fully supported the box says. After watching YouTube I downloaded a 'kernel' (something like '1.21') from www.r4sdhc.com <although the website now seems to have been pulled>.

The roms work fine, but I cannot get the DS to see or play MP3 or DPG files. I have moonshell 1.71, and have created a 'Music' folder and 'Movies' folder. I populated these two folders with a few files but when I choose 'multimedia' I cannot see the DPG file in the Movies folder, and when I try to play the MP3 files I can see it says 'load error'. I did managed to get a single track to play, but after deleting the track on the SD card and copying again with the other MP3 files I now cannot get this (legally purchased) track to play either.

I have watched countless Youtube vids and it seems so easy, but any help would be genuinely appreciated.
