Have a very strange things going on here. I used IMG BURN to burn on a Ritek DVD-R disc. It burned fine, said it was 100% complete, but when I went to play it, it said either no disc was inserted or that Windows doesn't support that kind of formatting. I tried to play it in standalone DVD player and it said NO DISC.
What I noticed is normally my LG GH22NS30 shows up as ram.cfm" class="forum_link" target="_blank">DVD-RAM when a blank disk is in there or if it's not blank and something is on there, it will show up as, say, MY SLIDESHOW or whatever in Windows Explorer. What's happening with these discs is when I put it in my drive and it loads it, it shows up in Windows Explorer as CD-ROM drive. Very strange. When I try to explore it, it tells me Windows can't read the data. Again, I'm using img burn.
Is there a setting that has to be enabled to kind of close out the disc to make it readable?
I tried using one in Roxio and it finished and could be read, but it took foreverrrrrrrr to burn it. That makes me think it's something in IMG BURN.
Any ideas?
Thanks so much!!

try this (task bar , mode setting)
1) Imgburn -> read (convert video ts folder to iso)
2) Imgburn -> write (write the iso you just created)

So you think making an ISO and then burning that ISO with ImgBurn is going to make it "close" or whatever and force it to play? Are there any special settings I should have enabled/disabled in IMG BURN for DVD-R discs? This is my first time using DVD-R discs. Maybe the one time was a fluke and I should try again. Just wondering what the difference was between Roxio and IMG BURN that allowed one to be recognized and play versus one being unplayable and not even recognized by Windows. Again, in Windows Explorer, it changes it from ram.cfm" class="forum_link" target="_blank">DVD-RAM drive to CD-R drive in Windows, which is odd. Then, again, it just days Windows doesn't support this file type and closes out.
Just trying to be as clear as i can here since you all are so very kind in trying to help me :O)
Thanks a billion!

Thanks for the info, but that's not true about ImgBurn. ImgBurn burns all types of files. Maybe you have an older release of it. You can get the newest release here and probably find some of the features in this thread. You can download off this page and also read about all the new features. You can do everything with it now basically, even bitsetting and burning and ripping, etc.

if you followed the guide to write folders to disc, you will note you must first build an iso, then write the iso in the next step.

Then what does this all mean? I'm not trying to be argumentative. I'm just learning this latest release.
Here is a page that breaks it all down. Can you please show me where I'm misinterpreting having to build an ISO first? I believe it states somewhere in the beginning of this page that you no longer have to do so.
Thanks for all your help!! :)

Okay, I just had success. Unfortunately, the first disc I used must have been bad. I should have tried a second one before I posted this... BUT by posting this, at least I taught someone something new in ImgBurn :O)
Just use the BUILD screen, drag and drop your VIDEO_TS folder (and AUDIO-TS if you want to) into the empty box, pick your burner and hit burn. If you didn't label it, it will ask you if its suggested label is what you want. Do whatever you want with that and hit OK. Then it burns and plays fine in DVD-ROM player or standalone player. I don't use simulate or verify usually, but I did use verify on this burn just to make sure there were no problems there, which there weren't, and then presto! I have a burned DVD-R.
I usually use DVD+R with booktype set to DVD-ROM, but I have a spindle of DVD-R here that I wanted to use up. Glad I will be able to now :)
I know this sounds silly since I'm a newbie here, although I'm a long-time computer builder, etc., but if you have any questions, feel free to ask. And maybe you can install the latest version and benefit from it now and not have to use something else to burn with since ImgBurn takes up VERY little disk space.

Sometimes Windows acts stupid, and simply does not see a burned disc. Reboot, and it will be seen just fine. This has been a problem since the first burners came out in 2001. I use Windows XP Pro SP3, and the problem persists.

Gina, may I ask which programs you are using to to get your dvd compliant files?

Or if you mean what I'm using to convert/rip, I use ConvertXtoDVD if I'm converting an avi file. If i'm ripping, i still rip with RI4M and depending on the compression, I will use either DVD Shrink or DVD-RB.
Hope I answered it with one of these two posts :O)

Yes, I was wondering what programs you used to rip. You can create an iso image with dvd shrink. Didn't know if you knew that, and it may be a bit easier to use than imgburn to create an iso.
As Miss Lambchops1 posted, DvdFab HD Decrypter is a free ripper that is still being updated, and I believe ripit4me has not been updated in a while.

I also sometimes use DVDFab HD Decrypter. Those are my top three, the two I mentioned and then DVDFab, depending on what i'm doing. I especially like DVDFab if i'm merging two discs together.
THANKS!!
ps Sorry about my caps and weird lower case blend. I have my editing software for my court reporting open and every time i do that, my keys lock in caps or smaller letters. So i just don't want you to think I'm a little off because of the way my messages are appearing...LOL
Thanks Again! Have a good one!

Yeah, as I always use the "burn folder to disk" option, and just burn the video_ts folder.
