Hi all

Appologies if I picked the wrong forum.

My Conceptronic C100BRS4H router is apparently open source. It's quite old and isn't that great so I'd like to experiment before I decide to buy a new one.

I know of DD-WRT and Tomato for certain wireless routers but have found nothing for non-wireless.

Does anyone have a suggestion?

I run Linux aswell as windows in my home if that helps. I also have a wireless access point attached.

Thanks

I'm guessing you want to update the router software?

Thanks you for the response.

Updating the firmware is a fine suggestion but mine is certainly up to date.

By experimenting I mean testing alternative firmware or perhaps tweaking the linux source. (DD-WRT and Tomato are alternative firmwares for certain wireless routers)

I am looking for something of a more advanced level than just an update. Ultimately I want more options to tweak in order to attain higher speeds.

Any advice on the subject is greatly appreciated.

If there is a particular router on the market that I shouldn't pass up then I'd like to hear about that aswell.

Your speed depends on your modem and internet connection.. that router will do 100Mb/s which is faster than any domestic broadband.

Playing with router firmware source code.... doubtful as it's probably not available.

The info you provide is true, but not what I was refering to in terms of higher speeds.

I have heard that when advanced options are availabe in the firmware such as with DD-WRT and Tomato then settings can be tweaked to optimize the speed for various tasks such as bittorrent and gaming. There are multiple sites on the subject.

http://zedomax.com/blog/2008/02/26/diy-l...0-times-faster/ (only one tiny example but there are others with more detail)

Now the source has been released for the Conceptronic C100BRS4H and is easily downloaded but perhaps there is already an alternative firmware available which I would like to hear about. If not then I would like to know what to do or read in order to tweak the source code.

Thanks again and I'm sorry I must elaborate again
.
