I looked on the Supermediastore website and found that there are many taiyo yuden dvd media. Which one do i need for basic good quality movie backup burning.

First off, be sure that your dvd burner is compatible with TY media... it most likely is, but it's always good to make sure which specific types the burner works with... especially with older burners.
Many people have had no issues with any of the media, including the Value Line. I personally buy the 8X DVD-R Premium Line Silver Thermal Lacquer. I've burned many dvds with this stuff and have had minimal coasters burned ( less than 1% of 1000's of dvds burned ). Thanks to others on this site, I also realized that this stuff is so good, that I can reliably burn my backups at 12X instead of the 8X that this stuff is rated at.
The TYG02 with media code GG007XXX is great media and well worth the price.

Common sense would suggest :
1.) The manual that came with the burner/machine.
2.) The website for the manufacturer of the burner.
3.) Using Google.

I used to think that Supermediastore was a decent site but not after today. I'm having a hell of a time with a canceled order. I don't use major credit cards online. I use gift cards. Well Supermediastore won't accept my Visa gift card but this order is still pending according to my gift card's site so at this time I can't buy my TY's from another site until I clear up this mess.

Because this mess hasn't been resolved, my order with Media Supply has been denied.

dialysis: I use a low limit visa credit card for online purchases.I haven't been ripped off yet,but if I do-it won't be a ton of $.
Call credit card company up directly and tell them your purchases will be small and mainly for online/telephone orders and they should be happy to keep the max at $100-$200.
patm1988: What's the brand name,model#,and current firmware version of your dvd-rw drive?

I have a samsung sh-s202n dvd writer. I checked and it handles all typyes of dvd media. It's a nice piece. i installed it and have had it for a little less than a year with no problems and also not loud. I recommended it to my friend who doesn't have a dvd writer and we couldn't find one on the internet. I think they stopped making that model. I also ordered the taiyo yuden 100 pack premium dvd's for 29.99 and am waiting for them.

Spoke with them this evening. They told me it take a few days to clear. I only have one TY left. I'll have to go and purchase another card tomorrow so I can get my discs by Friday. Newegg usually gets my orders to me in one day. I'll end up paying 5 bucks more though.

I use the 8x and 16x Silver Lacquer with great results; a good rule of thumb is to burn no faster than half the max (16x burn @ 8x max, better yet 4x). Some might suggest you can get more for your money but I'd put Taiyos and Verbatims up against any other media.

Burning at 12x on my 8x TY's works magnificently... another sign that this media is phenomenal.

It also depends on what 16x media your trying to burn slower than 8x. In my standalone DVD recorder (thats hooked up to the cable dvr) Tayio Yuden, Prodisc & CMC 16x media burn just fine at 1x. Ritek can be hit or miss at 1x depending on whether it's Ritek F1 or Ritek F16. One of those burns fine at 1x while the other one doesn't & I don't remember which one gives the good burn. Verbatim 16x does awful at 1x. Oh it plays back ok but the test results with DVDInfopro are terrible. Anyway those are my results with one standalone DVD recorder. Your results with another 1x recorder may vary. Oh & I've found that Verbatim 16x doesn't burn well at 4x either...

Verbatim is one of the few discs actually rated from 1x-16x, and I've had no such issues with realtime (slower than 1x) DVD recorder use, or 4x burns from duplication. Burners include BTC, Pioneer, LiteOn, Samsung/Sony, LG, OptiArc and BenQ. Thousands of burns have been successful (and tested as excellent, from random test samples).

Mcc-004 media,burned at 2.4x put out way too many crc errors on a couple of my backups on my benqs. I'd burn slow,set up to autoshutdown after the burn so no big hurry for a fast burn.
Then when it came time to re-rip one of them,crc errors and backups were unrippable.

I refer to DVD-R 1x-16x, MCC03RG20 media ID.
I do use a lot of MCC004 DVD+R at 4x, 8x, 12x and 16x. The 4x burns do fail more often than the 16x burns (which is almost never).
Definitely a difference, between the formats, for this disc.

Just curious, been a awhile since I've been on here, but can 8X MIJ Sonys still be found at Sears and Kmart or are those all dried up?

Pretty much dried up I'd say unless some can be found hidden away in the store room. 8x media media period is hard to find in store - online it's still plentiful.
