My son has had me searching the net for info on setting up a private server for him so a few of his mates can log in and play over the net. Rather than request those that know to "make" me a server like so many others, we downloaded the java applications, client and server (Testscape i think it was) and spent best part of the weekend setting up a no-ip address and finally working out how to set our sky router up to forward a port.
The net result is that we have a working server which all our network PC's can log into and explore the world. I've tested an external connection by using Log-me-in to access a mates PC and then running the client on his PC to access the server and it all appeared to work. However, one of my son's mates can not log in. the client keeps coming up with "connection error" and then "trying again in XX seconds" - I've spent all evening searching and and can't seem to find any info on what needed to resolve this issue, and would appreciate some pointers.
Now I have no Java programming experience, and my son seems to think that I can now add new characters and the like. I've browsed through this and other forums and picked up that most of the items are seeded via cfg files and I've managed to test this by moving a bank teller, and adding a blue dragon. However I gather the last set of digits give a range for that item to move within, but when we add a range the teller fails to move, even changing the movement from 0 to 1 or 2. I've been restarting the server and client after each change, but no affect. The only thing I can think of is that some characters are programmed not to move, but where I have no idea.
The other thing I can't find are some easy tutorials on how to customize runescape (testscape) so that say more food items can be found or dropped when you kill something. Could someone please advise.
