Hi.after turning on pc get allsort of pop ups saying programs stopped working, i.e. i-tunes helper, adobephotoshoot, avg tray monitor, and so on. try to connect to internet, if lucky takes about 4 mins, lot of time wont connect at all/ freezing on web pages, e-mail slow/ not working. spoke to my isp, checked, everything fine there end, not spoke to my pc maker(dell) yet. can anyone tell me if it worth the cost dell will charge to examine/fix.

Well...it's a Dell and that's all you've told us so far. What antivirus software are you running? Do have a firewall with that software or do you run a separate app for this? Is it up to date and current? Does it or has it alerted you to anything?

My advice would be to download and install hijackthis and run it to generate a log.
Do not fix anything at all with Hijack! All you need is the log it generates. Then ask a Mod to teleport this thread to the correct forum, so others will notice it better and hopefully lend a helping hand.

Trojan remover has saved my butt once or twice, so you may want to run it to see if that helps. It has a trial period, but as the name suggests it's only a trojan remover so it may well pass other net nastys along the way.

Don't give up just yet, the old junker has life in it still. :)

Cheers.

It's a dell.. and here arrives the dell expert.

First download and install ccleaner http://www.ccleaner.com/

have a play with it.. clean everything it finds a couple of times..

then uninstall everything which is chucking errors on startup.. if they don't want to uninstall then delete them from the startup list instead... then clean the registry again.

Then look for the generic malware removal procedures in the relevant parts of the forums.. at least malwarebytes I would guess.

Usually as dells are mostly stock hardware it's easier (and a hell of a lot quicker.. 30 minutes and maybe 20 looking for the right drivers.. compared to sometimes 8 hours on a malware scan for nothing.. because the malware hides.. and you waste another day scanning with other things..) to wipe them and reinstall whatever os and apps you want instead of trying to fix windoze.

don't download any more "free" screensavers XD

Happy hunting.. once you get something like a normal boot assess the symptoms .. if your browser takes you to the wrong places etc .. and then probably the best course would (if you want to try fixing the windoze you have) would be to follow the instructions in the spyware/malware topics.

Those guys will see you right XD

Hi. yes my avg autoscans+updates everyday. I have registry fix and scanned 2-3 times, malwarebytes, spydoctor., still having problems. Been suggested to me if problems persist better save everything to disc and "wipe" everything and reinstall. Sound like a good idea?
